I Would Hate To Be That Jake Owen Imposter Right Now

You’ve probably received friend requests from them. They may have sent you some strange messages asking you for money or other weird things. Sometimes it feels like you can’t escape from them, and there’s no hope in sight. I’m talking, of course, about fake Facebook accounts. If it makes you feel any better, even celebrities can’t escape the trouble caused by these little pests. Jake Owen’s fans have recently been getting terrorized by a fake account claiming to be the country superstar, messaging many of his female fans. The real Jake Owen caught wind of this imposter from his fans, and he is PISSED. Unfortunately for Fake Owen--the name some people are referring to him as--some of the fema

You Will Be Remembered, Prince

Very few people will come around that will have even a fraction of the impact on music that Prince has. He constantly pushed the boundaries of multiple genres to the point where we couldn’t even think of which one to classify him as. Did we need to? Hell no! The guy was a pioneer; he forever changed the course of R&B and rock n roll, and he did it his way. Not to mention, he was one hell of a fashionista. I mean seriously, who else could pull this off?? Regardless of what kind of music you listen to or what you thought of him, you can’t deny that without Prince, the world would look and sound very different. He broke down racial barriers, stood for gender equality, touched the hearts of mill

If I’m Honest About Blake Shelton’s New Album Art…

If I’m honest, it’s been a pretty bad year for Blake Shelton. In the past 12 months he’s gone through a divorce with fellow country singer Miranda Lambert, been put on blast for his new relationship with Gwen Stefani, and is about to enter into a lawsuit with In Touch Weekly over a false claim that he was in rehab with a drinking problem. The guy has seen his fair share of bad days. It hasn’t been ALL bad, though; The Voice is still going strong, and his newest single, “Came Here To Forget” has millions of plays on Youtube and Spotify. Blake recently released the artwork for his upcoming album, “If I’m Honest,” and if I’M honest, we should talk about this. If I’m honest, it’s pretty weird.

Mini Skirt Attention Spans in the Modern Music Business By: C

Is it me? Or does the attention span of today's music consumer seem relatively non-existent. Radio singles appear to be getting shorter in order to sell more advertising per hour. Not sure if there are many songs with a guitar lead solo or fiddle solo anymore. Will we eventually wind up with 1 chorus, 1 verse, then outro-into-commercial-break songs? More and more artists are releasing EP's of 4 to 6 songs and releasing new music more frequently. It's becoming more rare for an artist to release an album and then wait 2 years to release the next one. I think you will see more and more artists releasing EP's every 6 to 8 months in order to churn the new music cycle, instead of 1 album with 12 s

Kelsea Ballerini Just Celebrated Her 2nd #1 Hit

She may be the new girl on the block, but Kelsea Ballerini is already making big waves in the country community. Her debut album, “The First Time,” has sold almost 122,000 copies since its release in May, which is an AWESOME feat for a new artist in any genre. She spent 2015 on a couple tours with Lady Antebellum, Hunter Hayes, Sam Hunt, and Dan + Shay. Her first single, “Love Me Like You Mean It,” was actually the first time a female country singer’s debut single went to #1 since Carrie Underwood’s “Jesus Take The Wheel.” Wednesday, April 13th, Ballerini and her team celebrated her 2nd single and #1 hit, “Dibs.” ASCAP put on the event to honor the song’s writers, which include Ballerini, Jo

Carrie Underwood’s “Storyteller” By Kyle Yorlets

Since her American Idol victory in 2005, Carrie Underwood has completely taken the world by storm. She is without a doubt one of the biggest female country singers in history, Having cranked out 15 million career record sales and dozens of awards. Her newest album, “Storyteller,” released October 23rd, 2015, it has already been certified gold by the RIAA, and I can’t say that I’m surprised--it’s some of her best work to date. Normally albums have a similar feel as you go from track to track, whether it be through similar instruments, a common theme in the lyrics, etc. But this isn’t your typical album-- it takes 13 completely different songs, or stories, and ties them together using the most

Jason Aldean's "Lights Come On"

Jason Aldean is without a doubt one of the most successful countryrockers to ever take the stage. In his 11 years as an artist he’s cranked out 14 number one hits and 6 platinum or multiplatinum albums, as well as dozens upon dozens of award nominations and wins. This “Hick Town” hero has blazed a trail with his music that not many other country artists can match. It seems as though he’s at the highest point in his career so far, with no sign of coming down. So what’s next? “Lights Come On” was debuted today in preparation for his performance of the song at the ACM Awards this Sunday. The song is about working hard all week so that you can party all weekend, and is dominated by distorted g

Billy Don Burns Releasing Record Store Day Special LP

You won’t hear his name very often in today’s music circles, but this guy was one of the original bad boys of outlaw Country. Billy Don Burns was crankin’ out tunes back in the days of Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, and Johnny Cash; He’s written with Willie Nelson and Sammy Kershaw, and on April 16th he’ll be bringing something special to record stores across the country: a previously unreleased album, “A Night In Room 8!” In the beginning of 2014, Burns, Shooter Jennings, and Colonel Jon Hensley recorded an album in Room 8 of the Joshua Tree Inn in Joshua Tree, California. Room 8 is where singer/songwriter Gram Parsons was found dead in 1973, which adds an eery character to the record. In

Cowboy Troy's "Countdown To Vacation"

Country and Hip Hop are two very different genres, but sound amazing when put together. Some artists have been experimenting with combining the two since the early 2000’s, but it has recently seen more success than ever. There has never been a better time for Country rappers, and many eyes are looking toward one man in particular. I’m talking, of course, about Cowboy Troy, the founder of Hick Hop. Troy has been crankin’ out Country Rap since 2001, and I’m willing to bet you’re gonna put his new single on your summertime playlist! “Countdown To Vacation” is three and a half minutes of pure relaxation, painting a picture of a perfect getaway. The instrumentation has a very tropical Caribbean f

Kayla Calabrese’s “Happily Never After” by Sam Eisenberg

Where even to begin. “Once Upon A Time” seems appropriate, so shall be it. Once upon a time, there was a young starlet named Kayla Calabrese, and she got tired of taking everybody’s crap. She sat down and wrote a kick-ass song, entitled “Happily Never After.” Let me tell you, Crank It fans, this song is great. Take every Disney love story you’ve ever heard, and tear it to shreds; that’s exactly what Kayla does with her latest single. This track has everything you could want in a break-up song/I’m pissed off song/I’m tired of this song. From the moment the song begins, Kayla informs the viewer that “if [she] were Cinderella, her glass stiletto wouldn’t fit.” In other words, this ain’t a love
