REVIEW: April Kry dazzles in “Beauty Queen”
By: Alina Tichacek There’s no point mincing words, so let’s get straight to the point: “Beauty Queen” absolutely blew me away. I have no doubt April Kry is going to be country’s next big superstar.
Kry’s powerful vocals immediately brought to mind Carrie Underwood’s pipes, and that’s no idle compliment. Kry counts Underwood as one of her top influences, and it shows in her style. If Kry keeps churning out songs like these, I wouldn’t be surprised if Underwood became not just an influence, but a fan too!
The success of “Beauty Queen” lies beyond just the fantastic vocals. One of the best parts of the song and accompanying music video is how well Kry gets into character.
Describing herself as reserved, the sassy, hard-edged girl depicted in “Beauty Queen” is a far cry from the real April Kry. Despite that challenge, she manages to pull off the character with flying colors. Attitude radiated from her in the video, and I believed every second of the performance.
Maybe Kry is more like that southern beauty queen than she realizes – perhaps there’s a bad girl hiding beneath the surface in her, too. We’ll just have to wait and see what the future holds for this talented performer.
