NORMAN NORTH’S NEW SINGLE “PLAIN JANE," BRIDGES THE GAP BETWEEN HIP-HOP & COUNTRY FANS
Norman North’s country roots run deep with his upbringing in the small town of Sunnyside, TX where country music was constantly blaring on the radio. North has been successfully writing and producing hip-hop music for years for the likes of Megan Thee Stallion and Moneybagg Yo, but after the passing of his mother recently, North rediscovered his love for country music and the joyful feelings it brings. To North its “memory music” that brings the listener back to a certain place, time or feeling and that’s exactly what he’s aiming to create with his single “Plain Jane,” available now.
The single, distributed by music industry icon Troy Carter and Suzy Ryoo’s company Venice, merges North’s infamous hip-hop writing and production with a traditionally country production of live instrumentation. Musically, North calls “Plain Jane” a six string classic with a splash of 808s.
“Plain Jane is a musical reminder from men to women everywhere we appreciate and love them exactly as they are,” exclaims North. “To me this single exemplifies what country music is to me and that’s a time stamp and a perfect way to remember a moment.” “Plain Jane” is part of North’s debut five song EP The Other Side that is slated for release on May 12, 2021. The EP is a manifestation of North’s relationship with music as a way to connect with people and share love and positivity. North’s goal for this collection of music is for fans to discover the same feelings he felt when he listened to country music for the first time. North solely penned all tracks for the EP except “Us Now” where he enlisted the help of Natalia Malo. “My introduction to Norman North was from a soundcloud link that Suzy Ryoo (cofounder of Q&A Media) sent me. I didn't see any pictures or visuals but I just heard the music from a country ep called "The Other Side,” explains J.R. McKee, Head of Streaming and A&R at Venice. “I was taken back by the familiar country sound and yet genre defying timelessness of the music. Troy Carter & I agreed that day that whoever Norman North was, without seeing pictures or visuals, we wanted him on Venice Music. We see Norman North as groundbreaking, not just in country music, but in the rise of independence for artists." Track Listing: 1. Us Now 2. Always 3. Plain Jane 4. You’re Not Alone 5.
