Hudson Westbrook’s Releases New Single “Hits Me”

Hudson Westbrook is an American country-music singer-songwriter from Stephenville, Texas, who went viral in 2024 with his debut single “Take it Slow.” After that, he continued to release music that resonated with his audience. Most recently, his new single "Hits Me" came out on July 10th. The song explores what it feels like for loneliness to hit you by surprise, even after it feels like you’ve moved on. 

Throughout his new single, Westbrook sings about what it's like to fail to move on because of an inability to forget the past. He proves his strength in honesty and vulnerability with a song that relates to anyone who has gone through an emotional romantic separation.  He tells a relatable story: working your week away and thinking you’ve moved on, only to be struck by a harsh feeling of loneliness when you get home and have no one to be with. 

That emotion is especially evident in the transition from the first verse into the chorus:

"...And just when I think I have it under control

Little do I ever know..."

followed by:

"That's when it hits me..."

The lyrics describe the way heartbreak often works, not as a constant feeling, but as something that returns when you least expect it. “Hits Me” may not be the loudest, most energetic thing in Hudson Westbrook’s catalog, but it’s one of the most honest. And it proves once again that simple storytelling and emotional transparency can have the biggest impact in songwriting.
