Weezer Returns with Upcoming Self-Titled Gold Album

Few rock bands have had the staying power of Weezer. Thirty years on from its self-titled debut (aka The Blue Album), the band still evolves without losing the power-pop sound that helped define alternative rock in the ’90s. Now, with the upcoming self-titled album, which fans have already dubbed the Gold Album based on the artwork, Weezer is preparing to start another chapter. The record is set to be released on August 21.

The ten-track album comes on the heels of the lead single, "Shine Again," and another recent release of its collaboration with Wednesday titled "We Might as Well Be Strangers." This shows that the band seems to be gravitating back towards its signature power-pop sound, defined by melodic guitar hooks and emotionally driven songwriting.

This album will coincide with its upcoming tour, "The Gathering." While die-hard fans are expecting another string of power-pop anthems from the group, the single seemed to offer a hint of nostalgia.

Of course, until the album’s release, we won’t be able to determine where the record falls in the ranks among Weezer’s previous albums. What is certain, however, is that Weezer's commitment to creating new music more than three decades into its career has kept the band relevant across multiple generations of rock fans.
