REVIEW: Shake away your work week blues with John King’s “Tonight Tonight”

By: Alina Tichacek The work week may be hard, but hang in there, folks – Friday is only a day away. And John King promises it’s going to be the “best night of our lives” in his song “Tonight Tonight.”

The biggest strength of this song is how it latches onto things with which we can all relate: struggling to make ends meet, dealing with a boss that acts as if we’re property instead of employees, and of course that elusive freedom that Friday night brings.

The chorus is another high point of this song. After just one listen, it’s already stuck in your head, urging you to sing along. The most important part of any song is a catchy chorus, and King succeeds in delivering one.

“Tonight Tonight” is climbing up the country charts, hitting No. 30 on this week’s MusicRow CountryBreakout Chart. However, there is one thing holding it back – it gets a bit repetitive.

Repetition can be a great tool in music. It helps listeners learn a song quickly and easily, allowing the song to be recognized the next time they hear it. But it can also lead to a song feeling like old news too quickly. King is skirting that line in “Tonight Tonight.”

Nonetheless, for a debut single, it may generate just what King needs: name recognition. It may not be No. 1 material, but it does succeed in getting him heard and noticed, and that’s an important step in any successful music career.

So shake away your work week blues and give “Tonight Tonight” a listen. Let us know what you think in the comments below!
