Jack White's label Third Man Records Signs Long-Time Nashville Classic Country Mainstay, Joshua
The insanely talented, old-school Nashville country artist, Joshua Hedley, has just made a HUGE career move in signing with the highly revered Third Man Records. Third Man is the label owned by renowned rocker, Jack White. While many see Jack White as a garage rocker/bluesman, he also has a soft spot for classic country music, playing shows the legendary Loretta Lynn and signing country artist, Margo Price, to his label.
Hedley has been destined for music his whole life, playing shows in bars before he was 11! He's an excessively talented fiddle player, guitarist, singer and writer. For years, he's been the go-to sideman to accompany artists like Justin Townes Earl and Johnny Fritz. He also lent his beautiful voice to southern rap artist, Yelawolf, for his track "Shadows". For years he's been tearing up the better part of Lower Broadway in Nashville, finding a long-time home at the legendary country institution, Robert's Western World. Hedley calls Robert's, "My spot forever, no matter what happens".
Funnily enough, Joshua Hedley was featured in Rolling Stone's "10 New Country Artist You Need to Know: November 2016", where they mentioned that if Jack White was ever looking for a male counterpart to Margo Price, Joshua Hedley was the guy for the job. 7 months later and it looks like Jack White took their advice!
Making traditional sounding country music is the most important thing to Joshua. On his style, he says "So many of my contemporaries dabble in a classic sound but there's always some sort of new innovative twist. My new innovative twist is that there isn't one. It's important to exercise your creative muscles, but for me the genre of country music was perfected in 1965 and anything after that, albeit good, was experimentation".
Third Man Records is very excited about having him on board, posting "Hedley's initiation into the Third Man family solidifies not only the end of Bro Country's strangehold on the country music industry, but also Third Man's place as the greatest country label on the planet". Hedley could not be more excited, finally receiving the chance to record and make a full project under his own name. "Every day of the last 24 years of my life has led up to this moment. From the first time I picked up a fiddle to right now all I've ever wanted to do is make music and be given the opportunity to share that music with the world. It's been a long road full of all kinds of ups and downs, weird gigs, long van rides, hard floors, and incredible experiences. But through it all I never gave up, I never sold out, I didn't change myself for anyone, and I did everything the way I wanted to do it no matter what. And today my life's work finally paid off and my life's dream was finally realized."
Nothing his been announced yet about a full project from Joshua, but we are eagerly looking forward to whatever it is that Joshua and the Third Man team have cooking up!
