Little Big Town Pays Tribute to Troy Gentry

On both Friday (9/15) and Saturday (9/16), country music group Little Big Town took a few minutes to honor Montgomery Gentry’s Troy Gentry. Troy died in a tragic helicopter accident on September 8th, 2017. They covered the famous song, “My Town”, but not the way you’re thinking of. The song My Town is a very uptempo, fun and celebratory song, while Little Big Town’s cover of it is a slow, heartfelt ballad. While singing this song, the crowd roared in celebration, and many sang along in unison, “Na na na na na”.

The tragic crash happened in New Jersey, when Gentry had hopped on a helicopter ride. Troy was scheduled to play that night in New Jersey with his duo partner, Eddie Montgomery. After the fact, The National Transportation Security Board released a statement saying the helicopter had “Mechanical Issues”.

His official obituary reads, “Known for his wide smile, Gentry was personally driven by faith, family and living life to the fullest. One of his favorite Bible verses was Deuteronomy 31:6, which says, ‘Be strong and courageous; don’t be terrified or afraid of them. For it is the Lord your God who goes with you; He will not leave you or forsake you.’”

The celebration of Troy Gentry’s life occurred this past thursday (9/14), which Little Big Town performed at as well. Since Montgomery Gentry is set to release their newest album soon, a few lucky fans were able to hear one of their newest tracks, “Better Me”.
