Entertainment icon and country music legend Dwight Yoakam’s Wynn Las Vegas residency has opened to great fanfare. “An Evening with Dwight Yoakam and the Bakersfield Beat” will see five more shows this December 6,7, 10, 12 and 14, and return for a second run with select dates this March. More info/tickets HERE.
Yoakam describes the show as a “musical excursion” to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, going on to explain “There will be some rotating, floating tracks, some that will be in one night but not other nights. It will be a show made for Las Vegas;” read the full piece HERE. Opening night saw a full orchestra sitting in with Yoakam for a few songs. The shows, inspired by his SiriusXM channel, celebrate the Bakersfield sound and California Country and feature songs from his extensive catalog as well as a variety of covers.
This fall, Yoakam received the prestigious President’s Award at the 67th annual BMI Country Awards, which celebrates songwriters for their outstanding and influential work in the entertainment industry. The evening took place at BMI’s Nashville Office where he was honored by special performances from The Highwomen, Bob Weir and Margo Price, amongst others.
Yoakam was recently inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame at the 49th Anniversary induction gala, joining an elite list of legends who have previously been inducted including Willie Nelson, Hank Williams, Dolly Parton, Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash and more of country music’s biggest stars.
Yoakam launched his very own SiriusXM channel, Dwight Yoakam & The Bakersfield Beat, in April 2018. The channel is entirely curated by Yoakam and features music from the icon’s extensive career, as well as celebrates the Bakersfield sound and California Country. His weekly show, “Greater Bakersfield,” features Yoakam talking about California Country music and jamming with such esteemed guests as Bob Weir, Post Malone, Beck, Emmylou Harris, Jakob Dylan, Bob Lefsetz and more; more info HERE.
