In her new single “Too Good To Go,”, out September 26th, Shari Rowe opens up in a way that feels both incredibly personal and universally relatable. It’s a song born from a dark and uncertain time in her life — but what makes it so powerful is how she uses that darkness to shine a light.

When speaking with The Durango Herald, Rowe shared, “There’s a beauty that comes when you’re going through something so hard.” That one sentence perfectly captures the heart of this song. Through her honest lyrics and beautiful, carefully crafted melodies, she tells the story of fear, gratitude, and ultimately, hope.

At the core of “Too Good To Go” is a moment where Rowe thought she might lose everything — particularly her health. But instead of just sitting in the fear, she leaned into what it revealed: how much she had to lose, and how deeply loved and supported she truly was. That realization gave way to one of the most stunning lines in the song: “I love that I’ve got so much to lose.” Rowe herself calls it the heartbeat of the track — and it’s easy to see why. It’s a line that lands with the kind of weight only the truth can carry.

It’s reminiscent of that famous Winnie the Pooh quote: “How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard.” And that’s really what this song is about — the beauty in having something, or someone, that matters so much it would break your heart to lose it.

In an interview with Country Music in the UK, Rowe explained that the song actually started out as a poem. She wrote it during a particularly terrifying time — after enduring countless tests with no diagnosis and no answers. Eventually, doctors suspected Multiple Myeloma, a very serious blood cancer. For a while, she lived under the weight of that possible diagnosis, only to later learn she was facing Eosinophilic Fasciitis — a rare autoimmune disease, but thankfully not as life-threatening.

Still, the fear was real. And so was the perspective it brought.

“Too Good To Go” invites us into that moment with her — that breath-holding, heart-sinking space where everything feels fragile. But it also gently walks us out of it, offering a reminder that if we’re lucky enough to have things in our life that would be hard to say goodbye to... we’re lucky, period.

In today’s world, where everything moves so fast, it’s easy to overlook the things — and people — we care most about. This song is a reason to slow down. To take a breath. To notice what (and who) is around you. So I encourage you to give “Too Good To Go” a listen. Not just to honor Shari Rowe’s story, but to reflect on your own.

Because if you’ve got a lot to lose… maybe that means you’ve already won.
