The Return of Lorde

The New Zealand pop princess is back again with her new song “What Was That”. Lorde began teasing the synth-pop tack back in early April, making many fans eagerly speculate what was to come. Ending her four year musical hiatus, “What Was That” marks a the beginning of a new era of Lorde and is the first off her upcoming album “Virgin”.

Following the iconic pop-culture movement of BRAT summer, Charli XCX stated at her 2025 Coachella set “Maybe it’s time to make way for Lorde summer.” “What Was That” has already landed a spot in the top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100 with a promising album release set for June 27th of this year.

Differing from her previous record “Solar power”, this new track is more reminiscent of the darker undertones of her earlier works.
